With 287 apartments and an average of more than 330 residents, it takes a sizeable, coordinated crew to keep things on course. Have you ever stopped to think of what goes on behind the scenes each day to provide Coburg Village’s extensive complement of services and amenities?
Let’s take a peek at Facilities and Operations. This is the team responsible for keeping Coburg Village looking good and running smoothly.
Heading the department is Mike Campanella who joined Coburg Village as Facilities and Operations Director on October 15, 2025. Prior to that, he was an instructor at GE’s Learning Center on Balltown Road teaching field engineer trainees crane rigging. He also owned his own building and remodeling business. Fortunately for Coburg Village, GE moved its Learning Center to Houston and Mike decided to remain in the Clifton Park area.
Mike oversees the maintenance and housekeeping departments and co-manages the transportation department, along with Alverta Tompkins. Mike is responsible for the maintenance of Coburg Village’s fleet of vehicles while Alverta oversees transportation scheduling. Additionally, Mike manages major capital projects such as replacing roofing, paving, and major renovations. He also manages and coordinates outside service vendors such as landscapers, plowing services, and construction contractors. He purchases building materials, appliances, and other items required to maintain the facility.
Mike works closely with Executive Director, Antoinette Vinciquerra, and the various department directors and managers to assess maintenance and renovation needs and plan for both small and major capital projects.
Mike serves as the technical advisor for the maintenance team, which is comprised of six people including maintenance supervisor, Jeff LaPorte, who along with Mike, prioritizes and manages resident work orders; the upkeep and repair of common spaces, apartments and cottages, office spaces and kitchens; renovating apartments for incoming residents; and grounds maintenance. Each morning, Jeff reviews and prioritizes incoming work orders and assigns the various jobs to the work order team, George, D’Andre and Marc. Tom and Jon are dedicated to renovating apartments for incoming residents. The Marketing Department generates a move-in form each time an apartment or cottage is reserved which is used to prioritize renovation workflow.
If it snows during the week, it’s all-hands-on deck for the maintenance team to begin clearing the campus. If it snows during the weekend, cleanup begins on the next business day. Clearing the front lot is a priority to ensure first response vehicles have access to our front entrance. This is why it is especially important that residents and visitors adhere to parking instructions during the snow season. When there is a snowfall of three inches or more, Mike and his team clear the vehicles of residents who have contracted for our snow removal service.
Housekeeping supervisor, Michelle Johnson, manages a current team of eight housekeepers (Charlene, Shaum, Rachel, Joel, Mala, Glenda, Tammy, and Tina) who start their day at 7am doing rounds cleaning and stocking the 32 public bathrooms found throughout the facility. They also vacuum and clean the common areas. At 8am, the housekeeping teams begin cleaning resident apartments. They also clean and set up the Auditorium, Club Dining Room, and common spaces for various events and fitness activities occurring throughout the day.
It may sound cliché, but there is no such thing as a typical day in the Facilities and Operations Department. There are constantly new work orders, projects, and challenges. Mike enjoys how quickly the day passes, because he is constantly busy and being pulled in many different directions. One of the most challenging aspects of his role is juggling employee schedules to ensure that he has the people power to get the job done.
Mike is a native of Clifton Park and is married to his lovely wife, Valerie. They have a 16-year-old son, Nick. Mike enjoys cooking and gardening. In his spare time, he has a business upgrading electrical services and installing tankless hot water heaters.
